Workout Routine Tips

January 11, 2024

We’re all familiar with the prototypical stoner stereotype: lazy, couch-tethered, unkempt, silly...maybe Slater from Dazed and Confused rings a bell? Now look, while we’re all about the occasional couch-potato moment, we’re ready to retire that stereotype because being a stoner and being lazy are not one in the same.

In fact, there is evidence that suggests Cannabis can be beneficial for workouts and in workout recovery, and we’re breaking down how it fits into a healthy exercise routine. Who says pot heads can’t kill it in the gym?!

Exercise is not a competition. Working out is all about boosting your health (both physically and mentally too!), and building healthy habits. Take your time, figure out what works best for you and your body, and don’t burn yourself out on day 1 by trying to do too much.

Don’t underestimate the importance of warming up stretching out those limbs! Stretching and doing some simple aerobic movements before your workout has all kinds of benefits including increased flexibility, reduced soreness, lower risk of injury, and faster muscle recovery.

Hydration is key. Seriously, it’s key! It’s crucial to maintain your hydration throughout the day, not just during your workout, though having water on hand during your gym sesh is ideal so you can replenish fluids as you sweat.

It’s been suggested that cannabis actually has some great benefits when used during and post-workout. When employed during exercise, users can experience a boost in endorphin release, greater focus, and higher energy; following the workout, there are purported recovery benefits for sore muscles and fatigue. So if you have a love/hate relationship with the elliptical, eating an edible beforehand might just be the move!

It’s all about balance! You don’t have to give up your favorite snack, but maintaining a healthy diet made up of all the food groups is vital. Carbs, protein, and healthy fats are all necessary for balanced nutrition, as each supports different aspects of your health. So you don’t have to beat yourself up over that late night munchie sesh — just keep things balanced and you’ll do great.
